...with cuttings and bridges and curves.... and now we have buses and cars. Oh well. And the tramway reservation? Gone. Filled in. Some of it became park, some sold off to developers. Like a lot of Sydney's reserved track, just gone.

Well, there are many pros and cons that we could list out about evolving into a modern era. Things change for the better in terms of living conditions but history is slowly being erased physically. I think I have read of a historical postage centre being converted into a self storage to meet the increasing demands. Since almost everything is moving in a fast-pace and mobile now, we have to accept the fact that things will never be the same.
They must have needed a lot of removalists to get rid of all that soil there. I suppose that we can only look forward to the changes and hope that the new installations benefit others more than the tramway did!
From memory they filled it in, raised it up to the bridge height and made a small grassy park out of it. Some of it was built on, too, so it could never be used as a tramway again. Same thing happened to reserved tramway land at Randwick and some curves on the climb up from Manly. Other parts like the deep cuttings on the climb out of Balmoral and the bushy climb out of the Spit were left as they were... barring the odd walking trail.
